Chairman’s Note

chairmenLike every year we had celebrations with dazzling fireworks display in Sydney and other Australian cities and towns to welcome 2020, but surely the start to the New Year hasn’t been that great in many parts of Australia because of the unprecedented carnage from series of devastating bushfires. For obvious reasons, this has seriously affected inbound tourism. While extending my heartfelt sympathy for those affected and sincere condolence for those who lost their lives, I fully understand its effect on tourism in those affected areas. The Australian Government and Tourism Australia has launched a massive program for bushfire recovery and AITTC pledges to support all possible tourism related initiatives to see once again stability in the tourism sector.

The outbreak of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is severely affecting tourism.

International travel from China and some other countries into Australia is being impacted and this is being closely monitored by Tourism Australia, along with the states and territories. I hope a remedy comes out soon. If anyone travelling to Australia please check useful information on the Australian Government Department of Health website for all updated information

India Tourism Singapore had recently called for tenders from Tourism Marketing Organisations to represent them in Australia. The process in progress as we know from some of our members who have expressed their interest for the task. We look forward to supporting and working with the successful tenderer in due course with our strategic initiatives, one such being to apprise the industry with newer products and opportunities that India is currently offering. In line with that thought we have planned an event titled ‘India Calling’ in collaboration with the Indian consulate in Sydney for 26 February to update the major India focussed outbound tour operators on Wildlife, River Cruising and Luxury Train Journeys in India.

We are continuing with our efforts to see growth in bilateral travel and in that context we seek your cooperation and support to move forward.
